This sensitivity is especially evident in her use of the spiral motif in the "Star of Evening" series"[11] (Image 2) and "Light Comes Over the Plains" [12] (Image 3), where the shaky lines evoke a child's hand. The rhythmic strokes of the pen, similar to the arc movement of a child drawing a rainbow, transform celestial energies into visual rhythms.[13] Unlike "Kandinsky"[14] who embraced the aesthetics of preschool scribbles, O'Keeffe struck a balance between childish simplicity and formal precision; a synthesis influenced by the principles of spatial arrangement of decorative Dow, inspired by Japanese art. These works not only foreshadow her subsequent return to representation after an abstract period, but also coincided with the first year of her marriage to Stieglitz.[15]
