In recent years, with the growth of the financial turnover of Iranian art
the need for analytical, news, and critical texts to cover visual arts works and events has become more pressing than ever. The volume of these texts has multiplied, whereas previously, writing about visual arts was mostly considered a pastime and friendly affair.

Today, many people write and teach professionally in this field, but does this indicate the entry of criticism into the real cycle of art?

In European countries and the United States, art criticism is facing crises. Many theorists believe that criticism has lost its influence and has become a bureaucratic part of the art market. Excessive complexity, the dispersion of viewpoints, and the dominance of superficial information have distanced criticism from focus and depth. According to James Elkins, criticism today is written en masse and ignored to the same extent.

Theorizing and writing articles about visual arts provide a platform for a deeper understanding and analysis of artworks in various forms. The most important genres and approaches in this field include:

  •  Theoretical Criticism: To study theoretical analyses in the field of art, refer to the "Art Criticism" section. In this section, theoretical perspectives and conceptual frameworks related to artworks are examined.

  • Social Criticism: If you are interested in exploring the social dimensions of art and related criticisms, we suggest you visit the "Social Criticisms of Art" page. In this section, the reciprocal effects of art and society are analyzed from various angles.

  • Essay

  • Exhibition Review: For a review of professional and comprehensive critiques of recent exhibitions, see the "Exhibition Review" section in the weblog.

  • Theorizing: Refer to the tag Philosophy of Art. This section includes articles that address the intellectual and conceptual foundations of art.

  • Interviews with Artists:

  • Introducing a Collection of Works by an Artist

Issue 78 and Issue 79 of Herfeh: Honarmand (Profession: Artist) are selections of the best criticisms, articles, and writings about visual arts. In this issue, we follow the familiarity with narratives, the course of visual writing, the process of change, the ups and downs of discourses, and the intellectual questions and topics of art people, which show the mentality of Iranians in dealing with visual arts in these forty years. Apart from the fact that many of these texts are worth rereading, we must say that writing the history of contemporary Iranian art is impossible without studying and analyzing them. In Issue 78, 600 articles were read, and 67 articles were selected and republished to be a selection of Iranian visual literature between the years 1285 to 1357 (in the Iranian calendar, corresponding to 1906 to 1979).
